New photos have emerged of Selena Gomez partying in Malibu five years ago with her best friend Francia Raisa, who recently donated her kidney to the singer.
In the sweet snap shots, the former Disney Channel star, 25, is seen beaming widely beside her pal at a beach party in the holiday hot-spot, where they were celebrating Raisa’s birthday.
The intimate photos prove the pair’s close friendship even further – after it emerged this week that Francia, 29, had donated Selena her kidney over the summer, after the singer’s own organ had been damaged by Lupus.Birthday girl Francia appeared to be having a ball as she celebrated her 24th year in Malibu, first posing for the camera in a glittering bikini and festival-style flower crown atop her head.
Later joining her friends as she partied the day away, the brunette is then seen posing with best pal and ‘sister’ Selena in the throwback snaps, who she has been friends with since 2008.
Beaming widely, the actress slipped into a lime green swimsuit to celebrate her close friend’s special day – looking the picture of health, having not confirmed her battle with Lupus until the following year in 2013.
Selena took to Instagram over the weekend to confirm she had undergone a kidney transplant due to the health condition – with Francia agreeing to be her donor.
In the caption to her emotional post, the girlfriend of The Weeknd was quick to thank Francia for providing her with the ‘ultimate gift and sacrifice’ of the organ – and admitted she was ‘blessed’ to have such a ‘beautiful friend’.
Raisa, a 29-year-old model and actress from Los Angeles, has been friends with Selena since 2008, after the two met at a Disney and ABC Family charity event at the Children’s Hospital.
The BFFs have been almost inseparable ever since and Raisa has often paid tribute to their bond in Instagram posts.
In one from 2016, uploaded a photo of the pair together, as Selena turned 24, with the caption: ‘I am obsessed with every memory we’ve built in the last 8 years and the ones we have yet to create.’
‘I am so grateful that God put you in my life when he did. If you think about the time that we met and where we were in our lives when we first hung out, his timing was perfect.
‘It’s been so inspiring watching you grow and to grow with you,’ she continued.
