Chelsea have had a near total backline flush this summer. Malang Sarr, Antonio Rudiger, Christensen all departed the London club this summer in search of greener pastures.
With Marcos Alonso on the verge of completing a move away from Stamford Bridge, it could be chaotic for Thomas Tuchel this season.
However, Cesar Azpilicueta gave the German coach a sigh of relief by committing two more years to play for Chelsea. The Chelsea captain was very close to joining up with team mate Christensen at Barcelona, but signed a boomerang contract extension at the London side.
Ahead of a very intense London derby match this evening, Azpilicueta has shared his thoughts about how his side will approach the game, and the entire season at large:
“It is about pushing every day, going for everything and fighting to compete and to win trophies. The aim of the club is always to compete.”
“We have an amazing training ground and Stamford Bridge. We love being here and I’ve felt really welcome since the first day here.”
“This is my home. I’ve had a very successful period until now in the last 10 years and now I carry on and we’re all excited for what’s coming up.”
“I never look too far ahead, to be fair. When I first arrived in 2012 I couldn’t imagine that I could live this period that I’ve had until now. The years go so quick, so fast. It seems like yesterday when I first walked in the building…”
