Thomas Tuchel is using this summer to do a thorough overhaul, most especially in the attacking area. Chelsea have seen Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku depart this summer in search of a positive advancement in their career.
The London club are still on the verge of losing Hakim Ziyech and Hudson Odoi as the summer transfer window gradually approaches its dusk. Chelsea however have made very little reinforcements in the area, in order to compete favourably in this seven days old 2022/2023 Premier league season. Apart from Raheem Sterling and Armando Broja- who just completed a loan spell at Southampton, Chelsea have no new names in the offensive department.
Raheem Sterling who flourished under Pep Guardiola and was supposedly reaching the peak of his abilities, seemed unlikely to leave the Etihad this summer. The English forward stated his reason for opting for Chelsea amidst interest from a host of clubs, in a press conference interview:
“I’m 27, I know my standards, I know what I can bring to a team and I won’t accept anything less. I’m excited by the opportunity to showcase my talent.”
“Chelsea have been in four or five finals in recent years. It shows they are competing and are only going up, so with the new owners in it all made sense. With the options I had, it was one that was tailor-made for my personal goals and the direction the club is going in.”
“I just felt my time at City was getting limited on playing time for different reasons. I couldn’t afford to waste time. A fresh challenge was to be made. I tried to fight and change the situation but I couldn’t and I came here.”
The newly begun 2022/2023 season is now a big stage set for Sterling to outdo his astounding performance at Manchester City.
