Chelsea face Tottenham on Sunday in what looks to be a thrilling London derby. Tottenham have a terrible record in this fixture and Chelsea will look to maintain their dominance in London.
Thomas Tuchel has faced the press ahead of Spurs’ match. Here is how the boss responded to the questions asked:
on Wesley Fofana: “I will not comment. No matter how good your question will be, I will not comment. We could use one more central defender if you look at the numbers and that we play with a back three.”
on strikers: “I think we could strengthen our squad in depth in both attack and defence. It depends on what’s possible. You don’t always get what you wish for. We are calm and ambitious at the same time. There are still a few more days left in the transfer period.”
on Aubameyang: “I enjoyed working with him in Dortmund and it was a pleasure. Some players stay because you have a close relationship. Even when we played Arsenal we had this strong bond.”
on if Spurs have closed the gap this summer: “I never felt a huge gap in preparing these matches last season. They’re a very competitive and talented squad. I know what we invested to beat them four times and not concede a goal… it was a huge effort.”
on Conte: “I don’t believe everything Antonio Conte says before games like this. I admire him a lot. Every team he trains competes for everything, that’s what he proves right now.”
on the heatwave in the UK: “It was quite demanding playing in the heat. We have adapted our training session times to early mornings & in a stadium, it can feel even worse. It will be quite challenging and hopefully, there will be a pause for drinking.”
