Timo Werner has landed in Germany ahead of his return to RB Leipzig. The German is due to undergo medicals today and sign his contracts today as he’s set to finalize a return to the German club, per reports from Fabrizio Romano.
The 26 year old joined Chelsea back in 2020 for a fee in the region of £47M and struggled to hit top form at the London club and even though he was part of the UCL winning squad in 201, Werner only managed 23 goals and 21 assists in 89 appearances for the Blues.
The striker is now set to rejoin RB Leipzig for a fixed €20M fee. The German enjoyed the best stint of his career at Leipzig where he scored 90 and had a further 40 assists in just 156 appearances for the club. The club are undoubtedly pleased to have the striker back. Leipzig also completed the signing of Sesko from Salzburg but the player is due to join in 2023.
Werner’s exit leaves the Blues without a recognized centre forward following Romelu Lukaku’s return to Inter Milan earlier this summer. They have however completed the signing of Raheem Sterling from Manchester City and it remains to be seen if boss Thomas Tuchel will opt to buy a centre forward before the window closes.
