The Portuguese midfielder has had his name on a rollercoster ride in the summer transfer window. Barcelona have set up a rather hot pursuit for the player and do not seem to be giving up just yet.
The Catalans were said to have a lot to put in place financially before they can be able to land the midfielder. However, Xavi’s side still have hopes to change Silva’s course towards Spain.
Sources from England stated last week that Manchester City had no intentions to sell Bernardo despite rumours of an agreement for a fee to see him move to Barça. Contrary to that report, Fabrizio Romano reported that the Spanish team will still go for the player if Frankie De Jong leaves the club.
De Jong seems to be the line between Silva and Barcelona, but not one that can be crossed easily. Both Manchester United and Barcelona have agreed on a fee for the Dutch midfielder, but he has repeatedly stated his intent to remain in Spain. Barça president, Joan Laporta, also ruled out talks concerning De Jong’s departure from the club, saying that he is a player of the Catalan side and is not up for sale in this window.
Both De Jong and Manchester City seem to be firm on their decisions, but Barcelona have not totally ruled out the possibility of signing Bernardo Silva. Until the 90 minutes are over and the final whistle of the summer transfer window is blown, it remains uncertain whether Bernardo will wear the sky blue jersey of the English champions in the upcoming campaign.
