Chelsea had attempted a last ditch effort to try getting Nathan Ake and were prepared to submit a big bid to convince City to sell the player, per reports from Fabrizio Romano.
The Blues, however, failed in this attempt as the Dutchman was convinced to stay at Manchester City after talks with Pep Guardiola.
Nathan Ake has enjoyed a fair amount of success since his move to City in the summer of 2020, winning the Premier League twice as well as the Carabao cup once.
Even though, he has struggled to play regularly due to fitness concerns and being down the pecking order in choice of centre backs, the 27-year-old has always been fantastic anytime he’s been called upon which is why manager Pep Guardiola wants him to stay.
According to Fabrizio Romano, while the Ake to Chelsea saga was on, City looked at other potential targets and top of their list was Jules Kounde. The Cityzens were set to enter the race for the French international but there was nothing concrete or advanced since Ake had decided to stay.
