Manchester City have had a near perfect summer transfer window. With Marc Cucurella’s transfer saga being the only stumbling block at the moment, City are on course for a seemingly most productive squad revamp yet.
While the Premier League champions are pulling their resources to secure Cucurella’s signature, they may just have caused themselves more problems already.
Seeing Oleksandr Zinchenko switch allegiances to the Emirates, Pep Guardiola is already deficit of wingbacks; with Kyle Walker and Joao Cancelo being the only traditional senior wing backs. Although academy Josh Wilson-Esbrand has put up a stellar pre-season performance, the Spanish manager is not fully confident in throwing the 19 year old into the first team just yet.
Despite the Sky Blues dilemma, they have seen another wing back depart on loan. According to Fabrizio Romano, Girona have confirmed the signing of Yan Couto on a season long loan.
This is the Brazilian’s third consecutive season on loan since his move to the Etihad; spending his debut season at Girona and sophomore at SC Braga. The versatile right back is still yet to make an appearance for Manchester City since his arrival in 2020.
Having scored once and assisted twice in 39 appearances last season, Couto still has a lot to prove if he is going to get minutes under City boss, Pep Guardiola.
