Manchester City are set to begin the new season without an orthodox left-back. Joao Cancelo being the only first team left back was converted from the same position of the right half of the pitch. Although the Portuguese has impressed more on the left side than on the right of recent, City may still have to dip their hands in their pockets this summer fill up the space that Zinchenko left at the Etihad.
Not totally discarding the option of bringing in a new left-back option, Guardiola earlier stated in a press conference that his side may wait till the winter before moving for a new wing back. The Spaniard also stated that he has back-ups in that area: Nathan Ake and a host of academy players to turn to in cases of injury, fatigue and match suspensions.
Although City are still keeping tabs on Borna Sosa and Alex Grimaldo, one of the two seems more keen on the move than the other.
Reports coming from Spanish daily newspaper, Mundo Deportivo has stated that it would be a delight for Benfica’s Alex Grimaldo to play under City’s Pep Guardiola. The news further backs Grimaldo to reinforce Manchester City’s defense on left flank of the back line.
Manchester City still have three weeks to decide whether to go all out for a full-back or keep the ball within the confines of their home.
