One major highlight at the Etihad all summer has been to sign a left-back. City sold Zinchenko to Arsenal and recently lost the race for Marc Cucurella to Chelsea.
The Cityzens are reportedly not far away from signing Sergio Gomez from Anderlecht, but not as a first team player yet. There have been talks that suggest he will be loaned to Girona immediately after signing for City.
This brings Manchester City back to the point they have been in for weeks or even further behind.
Even as his team still pursues a deal for a first team competitor at left-back, Guardiola has given his verdict on the situation. In his most recent press conference, the coach responded to questions regarding the club’s stance on the LB situation.
Pep Guardiola: “Nothing special, we are the same. Joao is there, Nathan can be there. We will see, still have time until the end of the month.”
Pep Guardiola: “As much still we are there, we have a transfer window in winter, maybe we take something we can’t do now.”
The coach does not wave off the speculations regarding their pursuit for a natural left-back. Neither does he bother about not sealing a deal for one. Everything remains open and seems to be in the order that Pep likes.
