Pep Guardiola is certainly up and ready for this season!
The Spaniard utilised the summer window to filter his last season’s trophy winning side with a somewhat fine sieve. With the likes of Fernandinho, Sterling, Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus being the affected parties, Guardiola made sure to provide replacements quick enough. Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez replaced the now London attacking pair, Kalvin Phillips for Fernandinho and finally, Sergio Gómez for Zinchenko.
Questions were asked as to whether Gómez was a part of Guardiola’s first team plan or a much welcome addition to Manchester City’s feeder team. Pep Guardiola has however responded to such questions, stating clearly his plans for the 21year old this season:
“A young player, in the World Cup years ago the best player was PhilFoden and he was the second best player. He played in Spain U21, young talent for Barcelona, went to [Borussia] Dortmund, played in good hands under [Vincent] Kompany…”
“He is for now, he will stay with us, the ManCity squad, alongside Joao [Cancelo], Josh [Wilson-Esbrand] and him for the left-back [position], he’ll stay with us.”
