Manchester City are reportedly interested in a move for Sporting CP midfielder Mattheus Nunes.
Although, there isn’t any bid yet and no concrete talks opened, the Portuguese international is much admired by the Manchester based club.
Reports from Jacque Talbot of Football Transfers says City might make a move for the player this summer and the price tag of €35m shouldn’t be a problem.
Mattheus Nunes became a regular in the Sporting CP side back in the 2019/20 season and hasn’t set his foot off the pedal ever since being an integral part of the squad that won the Primera Liga in 20/21 and also made the Primera Liga team of the year in the just concluded 21/22 season.
The 23-year-old can be a long term replacement for Ilkay Gündogan as the German Midfield maestro turned 32 this year. The versatile Midfielder plays primarily as a central midfielder but can also fill in as a defensive midfielder.
Last season, the midfielder had a pass accuracy of 87% which is very impressive considering the style Pep Guardiola and his City boys plays. Pep Guardiola also had kind words for the Portuguese after Man City’s Round of 16 clash with Sporting in the 2021/22 UCL season. Pep labelled him “one of the best players in the world”.
It remains to be seen if City will table a bid for the player this summer following the acquisition of the Yorkshire Pirlo – Kalvin Philips
