Manchester City have completed the signing of left-back Sergio Gomez from Anderlecht for €15M, per reports from Fabrizio Romano.
The 21 year old left-back becomes City’s 5th signing this summer, following the arrivals of Erling Haaland, Julian Alvarez, Kalvin Philips and Goalkeeper Stefan Ortega.
Sergio Gomez is brought into the squad following the departure of Oleksandr Zinchenko who was the only left back at the club due to the suspension of Frenchman Benjamin Mendy. Manchester City have explored a number of options for the position and have missed out on a couple of target including Marc Cucurella and Destiny Udogie. The Cityzens have now finally gotten this transfer over the line.
The Spanish international is however viewed as a player for the future with City still looking to sign a first choice left-back, meaning Gomez might be loaned out to Spanish side Girona. Manchester City board alongside Pep Guardiola will decide the player’s future as he has a very huge chance of remaining with the team, especially if another left-back isn’t added to the squad.
City are linked with a number of left-backs with Raphael Gurreiro now seemingly emerging as the priority target, while Alex Grimaldo and Borna Sosa remains an option.
