Manchester City have announced the signing of left-back Sergio Gomez from Anderlecht for £11.5M.
The 22 year old becomes City’s fifth signing following the arrivals of Julian Alvarez, Erling Haaland, Kalvin Philips and Stefan Ortega.
Sergio Gomez is set to remain at the first team and will become the only left-back at the club, although Joao Cancelo has held the position very well while Nathan Ake can also be deployed at the position. Sergio Gomez will replace Oleksandr Zinchenko who joined Arsenal earlier in the summer.
The Spanish international enjoyed a fantastic 21/22 season at Belgian club Anderlecht, scoring 7 goals and providing 15 assists and was named Anderlecht player of the season. Gomez worked with City legend Vincent Kompany at Anderlecht and is expected to slot in very well at City.
Gomez will wear the Jersey No. 21, which was worn previously by Spanish international David Silva for a decade and more recently worn by another Spaniard – Ferran Torres.
