Manchester City goalkeeper Zack Steffen is currently undergoing a medical at Middlesbrough ahead of a season long loan, per reports from Paul Tenorio of The Athletic UK.
The United States international was signed by Manchester City in the summer of 2019 but was immediately loaned to Fortuna Dusseldorf. He returned to the Manchester club in 2020 and has now spent 2 full seasons at City as the second choice GK.
However, with the acquisition of Stefan Ortega Moreno from Arminia Bielefield, Steffen has fallen further down the pecking order and has to look for playing time elsewhere and Middlesbrough is the preferred destination. With the world cup coming up, Steffen has to be at his best to retain his choice as first choice GK for the USMNT.
