Manchester City will take on Liverpool, after being drawn to face their rivals in the draw on Thursday night. Fixtures for the fourth round will take place following the World Cup break, on the week commencing December 19.
Liverpool needed to get past Derby County in order to secure their spot in the fourth round.
Pep Guardiola’s men secured their passage through to the next round of the League Cup with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Chelsea on Wednesday night. After a goalless first half, City hit the front less than 10 minutes after the restart as Riyad Mahrez curled home a superb free-kick past Edouard Mendy.
Julian Alvarez doubled the Blues’ lead five minutes later as he tapped into an empty net. Stefan Ortega was called upon throughout the 90 minutes and produced some world-class saves to defend his side’s lead.
Under the Catalan boss, Manchester City have won this tournament four times in the last six seasons – with all successes coming in a row.
