Manchester City have started the season really beautifully. Two straight wins, six goals with none conceded, is what it took to place City at the top of the table.
City’s seamless yet glorious performances on the pitch is no way synonymous to a side who lost their captain this summer.
Fernandinho, who succeeded David Silva as Manchester City captain bid the club farewell after nine years of devoted service. His move to his home country, Brazil has aroused a lot of questions as to who will be his successor at City.
Well, the answer has been provided!
Ilkay Gundogan, who was Fernandinho’s vice last season has been deemed fit to take over the mantle. Gundogan however had already resumed duty before the official announcement, as he captained his side to a 2-0 win against West Ham, and 4-0 victory over Bournemouth.
The German is already leading examplarily in his just begun tenure; he provided the sublime assist that led to Halaand’s penalty goal at the London Stadium, and also opened the score line at the Etihad yesterday.
Gundogan is already showing prospects of a very productive season for the entire team. To further ice the cake, Kevin De Bruyne has been gifted the Vice captain armband. The Belgian has already scored once and assisted twice in two appearances. What a stellar that is!
In my opinion, it’s a perfect partnership. The pair already form the fulcrum of City’s midfield, and the responsibility will set them up for other players to emulate.
The other trio to complete the 5-man captains are Kyle Walker, Ruben Dias and Rodri, in that specific order.
An impressive last season’s performance from Rodri has earned him a spot in City’s captaincy board for the first time.
Wonderful decision from Manchester City! We await to see the success that awaits them this season.
