Manchester City have lost an attacking duo in the same transfer window. Losing Gabriel Jesus to Arsenal, and Raheem Sterling being Chelsea-bound, it seems as if Mancity have degraded in their attacking prowess. But that is not the case.
The landing of Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland ahead of the 2022/2023 should fill the void of the now London players and hopefully outshine them. However, Manchester City still have a little blind side that they have not tackled yet.
With Julian Alvarez expected to understudy Erling Haaland, Mancity could be short of wingers. While this could be an opportunity for academy star, Cole Palmer to rise to the occasion, the sky blue team have been heavily linked with Serge Gnabry over the past few days.
The Bundesliga forward is entering the final year of his contract with Bayern Munich and has no plans of an extension. The German international has declared that he is open to a move away from Germany. With growing interests from Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea, Gnabry has streamlined his options to a non-London team, putting Mancity in pole to sign the forward.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are closely monitoring Gnabry’s contract situation with Bayern Munich and are keen to bring him to Stamford Bridge after recently getting their hopes crushed by Leeds forward, Raphinha. The Brazilian snubbed the London club in a U-turn move to Barcelona.
However, Chelsea seems to be the only club pulling the strings to sign Gnabry in a quest to bolster their attack. Bayern Munich have stated that they are yet to receive a bid from Manchester City. Whilst this is not the kind of news that the forward would be hoping to hear, a lot can still be done in the coming weeks. The summer transfer window is still very much open.
