Manchester City were able to retain their Premier league title in the 2021/2022 season by a hair’s breadth, with Liverpool following them toe to toe till the final match day.
The Sky Blue team failed to find a replacement for their record goalscorer, Sergio Aguero, after his departure at the end of the 2020/2021 season. With all attempts to sign Tottenham striker, Harry Kane falling to the ground, Manchester City opted to begin the 21/22 campaign without an orthodox striker. Despite having a nearly perfect season, scoring 121 goals in all competitions, Guardiola’s false nine system was a rather wasteful one in terms of conversion rate. With a conversion rate 45%, which is below average, Man City were still able to clinch a fourth EPL title in five years, as well as reach semi-finals in both the UEFA Champions League and Emirates FA Cup.
Manchester City however were able to point out their lapses early enough, as they secured the signing of Argentinean wonderkid, Julian Alvarez from Riverplate. The elite centre forward was then loaned back to his boyhood club with expectations to be a full Cityzen player in the 22/23 campaign.
With the Argentinean ace recently concluding his assignments at Riverplate, he is expected to resume duty at the Etihad almost immediately.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Julian Alvarez will be landing Manchester on the 8th of July, 2022, in anticipation of the July 10th unveiling ceremony of new signings.
With Chelsea making progressive talks towards signing, Mancity’s Raheem Sterling in the coming week, Alvarez would be keen on seeing the deal materialize soon enough so that he could possibly inherit the iconic number 7 jersey from the English forward.
