The 2022/23 season seems to be Ake’s breakout season. The defender has started all of City’s games so far including those in the pre-season.
In an interview with Sky Sports this afternoon, Ake explained his experience with Man City.In his own words he said:
“I’m happy. I feel like this is the season where everything is set out.
“I was very happy last season as well. You know, it’s football, rumours go like this. You stay, and suddenly you start the first game. The only thing I want now is to keep improving, doing well, and hopefully increase the game time.
“The main aim is here to be here, very important games, we started well, but there’s a long way to go. As a football player, you want to play a big a part as possible. I’m just going to keep trying to improve, and we’ll see what happens.
“I don’t want to say that [it’s my starting centre-back place to lose]. Obviously, I had a good start so far, but it’s a long season, we have so many good players. But I’m going to keep trying to do what I do, and hopefully we’ll see.”
on the left-back: “If the manager needs me, he can put me anywhere, I don’t really mind!”
on Guardiola: “No, never, never [known a coach more tactically demanding]. He’s for sure the best for me in that aspect. What he does tactically, how we prepares the game on the pitch in training… it’s something else.”
on defending Haaland in training: “He’s tough. So strong, fast, powerful. When you go tight, he runs in behind because he’s quick. When you give him too much space, he comes to feet. He’s a deadly weapon for us because he’s got it all really.”
