Pep Guardiola recently saw his assistant, Juanma Lillo leave the Etihad after accepting a coaching job at Al Sadd Sports Club, Qatar. The Tolosa born Spanish tactician spent two seasons at Man City as the first team’s assistant coach, with two premier league titles and one Carabao cup to his name.
However, Radolfo Borell is set to fill in Lillo’s shoes as newly appointed assistant coach. Radolfo has been a part of Guardiola’s backroom staff since 2016, after two years of working as the Sky Blues academy team’s technical director.
Following Borell’s recent promotion, Manchester City has shown no plans of being short-staffed in the coming season, therefore have appointed Enzo Maresco to succeed Radolfo Borell.
Enzo Maresco was the academy squad’s manager in the 2020/2021 season guided his team to lift the Premier League Division 2 title. The Italian tactician however left the for a managerial job at Parma of his nationality.
Despite being the head coach at the 12th positioned Serie B team in the 21/22 campaign, Maresco could not turn down Guardiola’s request to be a part of the Cityzens’ backroom staff due to his great admiration and love for the Catalan boss and the entire Manchester team.
With both Maresco and Borell serving at the elite academy division before promotion to the Premier league, it is almost as though the academy is a prerequisite to working with Pep Guardiola
