After a brilliant performance from the English champions in their win against Club America, head coach, Pep Guardiola expressed his delight in his players’ performance.
In a post match interview, the coach first spoke about how delighted he was to see how his side had gained more popularity in the United stated. In his own words he said:
“It’s an honour. We are so proud. When we arrived here [NRG Stadium] five, six years ago and lost to [Manchester] United there were only a few blue shirts and now there are a lot. We were happy to see them and the game was really good.”
Erling Haaland was an unused substitute in the match, although the fans were eager to see him in action. When asked about the striker, Guardiola said:
“Next game he’ll be ready. He had niggles, we don’t want to take risks, maybe against Bayern, we will see. He made two sessions, we don’t want to take risks. The season is so long; we will have time, don’t worry…”
“He had some problems last season at Dortmund but we try to handle it; it’s not a big issue. We want to take care of them. When we come back we want to be fit; the player has to be fit to be ready. It will come.”
Man City will play another friendly match against Bayern Munich on Sunday. After a thorough squad revamp this summer, Guardiola will hope to see a rather improved performance from his side than he did in the previous campaign.
