A couple of weeks ago, Manchester City were heavily in search of a centre back following Chelsea’s intent to sign Nathan Ake. As a result, City were linked with a host of defending options such as: Pau Torres, Joules Kounde and Joska Gvardiol.
However, Nathan Ake’s decision to remain at the Etihad cut all links between City and the aforementioned defenders, also putting to bed all transfer rumours concerning the subject.
With Chelsea recently hijacking Mancity’s Cucurella deal, Pep Guardiola has had a bit of unrest as to how to fill up the Zinchenko void in the left back area before league games kick in fully. Despite making enquiries about Borna Sosa, Alex Grimaldo and Rayan Ait Nouri, the Catalan tactician may also choose to explore playing Nathan Ake or Aymeric Laporte at the left back position.
Guardiola is also mindful of the fact that the latter option will definitely compromise his defensive resilience, and as such quickly reignited his interest in RB Liepzig’s Joska Gvardiol.
Fresh reports according to BILD Sports has just emerged staying that RB Liepzig have rejected Manchester City’s immediate bid for Gvardiol worth an excess of €80m.
Whether the Cityzens will improve their bid or stick to signing an orthodox left-back are the questions that will require answers as the transfer windows gradually come to a close.
