Anderlecht’s CEO Peter Verbeke has explained how defender Sergio Gomez cried in his office because he wanted to join Manchester City.
Sergio Gomez, who was wanted by several clubs in Europe, has moved to Manchester City for a fee of 13 million euros after providing 15 assists and scoring seven goals in the last season.
However, he has such great numbers in the last season no elite level club like Manchester City tried to sign him, as his move to the Etihad Stadium came as something of a surprise one.
The 22-year-old left-back was the one who pushed for his move to Manchester City, as Verbeke revealed to Het Laatste Niuews.
“Sergio Gómez is a story apart. Actually, our intention was to sell Amuzu and keep Gómez, contractually it made the most sense,” Verbeke said via Sportwitness.
“At some point it became clear that Gómez absolutely wanted to go to Manchester City, he was standing in my office in tears. Financially, we could also do a great business there.”
Sergio Gomez has made seven appearances in all competitions for Manchester City, providing one assist so far.
