Manchester City have one young and talented defender in Brazilian right-back, Yan Couto – who joined the club in 2020 from Coritiba. The 20 year-old spent the last two seasons out on loan in Spain, during the 2020/21 campaign, and at Portuguese side Braga, during the 2021/22 season.
Last summer, it was rumoured that several sides had contested for the full-back’s signature, including current Scottish champions Celtic, but Braga ultimately won the race albeit without inserting a buy clause in the contract with Manchester City.
The highly-rated right-back, who had arrived from Coritiba in the summer of 2020 was touted as the ‘next Dani Alves’ by many in Brazil and across Europe.
It is yet to be seen if the young Brazilian is in Manchester City manager’s plans for coming season, but the need for an extra full-back will certainly give some element of hope to Yan Couto. Unfortunately, Kyle Walker and Joao Cancelo being at Pep Guardiola’s disposal, it is impossible for any right-back in world football to displace either.
The 20-year old is understood to be ‘dissatisfied’ at being loaned to Girona and S.C Braga in back-to-back seasons, with Pep Guardiola expected not to utilise him anytime soon, from the viewpoint of the player.
However, the Brazilian is now looking set to join fellow youngsters such as Gavin Bazunu, Romeo Lavia, CJ Egan-Riley, Sam Edozie and Darko Gyabi in departing the club this summer on a permanent deal to fight for titles more especially.
