Disappointing start to the season from Manchester United. The Old Trafford giants seem to be back in the pit they found themselves in last season. Ten Hag’s revival project may take longer than we all anticipated after today’s showdown.
Brighton and Hove Albion handed United their first defeat of the season and claimed all three points from the match. The Seagulls scored two goals in the first half, both from Pascal Groß and took the lead at the break. Graham Potter’s side was clearly more critical as they converted the chances they created.
Manchester United had more possession and chances created, but they lacked what it took to score goals and paid the price in the end. The consolation came from an own-goal by Mac Allister.
It was really sloppy midfield from both McTominay and Fred, although United looked sharp in other areas. Here are the player ratings for the match:
De Gea (6.5) – Luke Shaw (7.0) – Martinez (7.5) – Maguire (7.0) – Dalot (6.5) – Fernandes (7.0) – Fred (6.5) – McTominay (6.5) – Rashford (6.0) – Eriksen (7.5) – Sancho (7.0)
Substitutes: Van De Beek (6.5) – Ronaldo (6.5)
Sanchez (7.0) – Dunk (6.5) – Veltman (7.0) – Webster (7.0) – Groß (8.0) – Mac Allister (6.5) – Caicedo (7.5) – Trossard (7.5) – Lallana (7.5) – March (6.5) – Welbeck (8.0)
Substitutes: Lamptey (6.5) – Mwepu (6.5)

Manchester United will travel to Brentford next Saturday, hoping to turn the tides on their poor start. Brighton, on the other hand, will host Newcastle at the Amex Stadium.
