It was a poor start to the season for Manchester City at the King Power Stadium. Letting their fiercest English rivals, bruise their ego in the Community Shield contest in a 3-1 loss is far from a commendable start from Pep Guardiola’s side.
Manchester City have not kicked into full gears yet as shown in their watered down threats while going forward and inability to keep the ball in possession. Despite several lapses from the entire team, Premier league legend, Tony Cascarino has attributed a little larger portion of the blame to a particular player.
Tony expresses his thoughts on Grealish after the match against Liverpool.
“He is far from impressed with the English player’s performance for City after his blockbuster £100m last summer,” he said.
“Grealish has an issue. You can’t be a £100m player and just be ‘ok’…. He’s in danger of either being loaned out, or going back to Aston Villa next season. He’s not playing well enough.”
Grealish was substituted early in the second half of Saturday’s match alongside Riyad Mahrez while the Sky Blues were still a goal down. Guardiola’s decision was sponsored by the wingers’ inability to provide much quality going forward.
With the former Villa man failing to impress at the level he did for his boyhood club, Grealish may just be at the brink of a career detour when he should be at the peak of his powers.
