Manchester City’s Midfielder Rodrigo has signed a new 5-yr deal to keep him at the club till 2027. The Spanish international was signed from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2019 and his contract was due to expire in 2024 but has now extended his stay till 2027.
Rodri thanked Pep Guardiola and the Manchester City backroom staffs for their help.
“I have improved so much as a player, and I want to thank Pep [Guardiola] and all the Manchester City backroom staff for their help,” said Rodri. “They are completely committed to helping me become the best player I can be, and I appreciate their hard work.”
Rodri also stated that renewing his contract was pretty easy as he views the club as his second family and he feels Man City offers the best shot at winning Trophies.
He added: “An easy renewal for me, no doubts about continuing my steps at Manchester City. I’m very proud of what I’ve done the last three years. I want to change the history with this club. We have done amazing things and we want more so I am very happy to continue here.
“We have been very successful since I came to Manchester City, which is something that makes me very proud. But to be honest, that success has made me even hungry for more. Once you start winning big titles, you don’t want to stop.
“Manchester City, I feel, offers me the best chance of winning trophies and that’s why I am so pleased to be staying here for longer.”
Rodri hailed Pep Guardiola and said that he feels there’s no better place to be than Manchester City and he can become even better at the club.
He continued: “The fact he played my position and understands everything in my head and all moments is good. The communication and feeling between manager and player [is good]. I have a great connection with him, great atmosphere and we both understand [each other].
“I remember the first year he was on me to improve, but the last year-and-a-half, he left me more to myself – I started doing my own mechanisms and understanding. It is good the confidence we have in each other, and one of the reasons that made me continue.”
“If I can show the level I have in the last three years, I feel I can be even better. I am very happy with that, and I think Manchester City think the same, which is why we have both agreed to continue here. We are both happy. There is no better place to be.”
Rodri further complimented new signing Kalvin Philips as well as the club for making great signings.
On Kalvin Phillips, he said: “He is a great player. We saw that at Leeds. We need this kind of player because when Fernandinho left we need physical players who can play holding midfielder and in forward positions. We need this kind of player so I think it is a great signing.
“I think Manchester City have made four great signings. The team always tries to get better, and you need new players [to do that] of course.”
