Spurs in competition with five Premier League clubs to sign Man City defender

By Daniel AkpaJune 28, 2022No Comments

Tottenham Hotspur, are one of six premier league teams keenly interested in signing Manchester City defender, Nathan Ake. The Dutch defender, since joining the Blues from Bournemouth in 2020, has not been fully expressive in terms of appearances due to injury and competition from John Stones, Ruben Dias and Aymeric Laporte.

Despite having few appearances, Ake has shown his quality (especially in aerial duels) by bagging 3 goals, all from set pieces for City in all competitions. The Dutchman won 57 aerial duels and 17 tackles in the 2021/22 premier league campaign. He also made 7 blocks, including notable acrobatic goal-line clearances against Arsenal and rivals, Liverpool, which proved to be vital in City’s race for and defence of the Premier league title.

Reports from different journalists have stated that the Spurs are strongly in the race to sign Nathan Ake. However, the North London club will have to contend with competition from 5 other premier league clubs in Chelsea, West Ham, Newcastle, Aston Villa and Bournemouth.

Man City have placed a £50m price tag on the defender, although the likes of West Ham, Bournemouth and Villa may be looking to sign the defender on loan. It seems as though the Spurs are most interested in signing the Ake, after head coach, Antonio Conte, praised him during his spell at Bournemouth. It is believed that the Italian tactician still wishes to have the Dutch defender in his squad.
